The Substance Abuse Professional on our staff who is qualified can complete evaluations for employees in safety sensitive positions regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT). It is our commitment to offer SAP services according to Federal Department of Transportation guidelines. According to the U.S DOT, when you test positive or refuse to test, you are not allowed to do any safety-sensitive duties under any DOT-regulated employer until you have seen a Substance Abuse Professional and completed the return-to-duty process. Those employees with safety-sensitive functions in the transportation industry are in charge of maintaining a safe work environment for their colleagues and the millions of people who travel in different ways all over the nation. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has established work rules in order to maintain a safe work environment, including rules concerning drug use and alcohol misuse. A substance abuse professional, or SAP, is defined by the US Department of Transportation as a person who evaluates employees who have violated DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations in order to make recommendations for the course of treatment or education, follow-up testing and aftercare.
SAP’s must have a license as a physician, social worker, psychologist, or otherwise licensed and certified therapist or counselor.
It is the responsibility of these individuals to protect public interest and ensure that drivers returning from the return-to-duty process are fit to return to safety-sensitive positions.
