You are not allowed to perform any safety-sensitive duties under any DOT-regulated employer if you test positive or refuse to test, according to the U.S DOT. SAP Evaluations Available Nationwide
The employees with safety-sensitive functions in the transportation industry have the responsibility of creating a safe work environment for their fellow workers and the millions of people who travel in various ways all over the nation. To keep the workplace safe, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has put in place rules to follow, like rules about drug use and alcohol misuse. A substance abuse professional, as defined by the US Department of Transportation, is a person who evaluates employees who have violated DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations and makes recommendations for the course of treatment or education, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
A SAP must be licensed as a physician, social worker, psychologist, or have another type of license or certification as a therapist or counselor. It is their job to keep the public safe and to ensure that drivers who have been through the return-to-duty process are able to return to safety-sensitive positions.
