Our team’s Substance Abuse Professional is qualified and trained to complete evaluations for employees in safety sensitive positions regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Our commitment is to provide SAP services under the Federal Department of Transportation’s guidelines. According to the U.S DOT, when you test positive or refuse to test, you are not allowed to do any safety-sensitive duties under any DOT-regulated employer until you have seen a Substance Abuse Professional and completed the return-to-duty process. The employees in the transportation industry who have safety-sensitive functions are responsible for providing a safe work environment not only for their co-workers but also for the millions of people who travel by various means throughout the nation. In order to ensure a safe work environment, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has established work rules, including rules on drug use and alcohol misuse. As defined by the DOT, a substance abuse professional is a person who evaluates employees who have violated drug and alcohol testing regulations to make recommendations for treatment, education, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
SAP’s must be a licensed physician, social worker, psychologist, or otherwise licensed and certified therapist or counselor. Their duty is to protect the public interest and ensure that drivers who go through the return-to-duty process are fit to return to safety-sensitive positions.
